During heavy snowfall months (typically late December to February), the final 12km road from Tangmarg up to Gulmarg becomes highly slick with black ice. Police do not allow standard 2WD taxis to cross. You will be dropped at Tangmarg and must hire a dedicated local union 4x4 vehicle equipped with anti-skid tire chains (approx. ā¹1,500-ā¹2,000 extra) to reach your Gulmarg hotel.
The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the highest cable cars in the world and tickets sell out weeks in advance during peak season. Taxis can drop you near the boarding station, but **they cannot guarantee Gondola tickets**. Always book your tickets online well before your travel date.
Similar to other tourist spots in Kashmir, outstation taxis from Srinagar can only drop you at your hotel or the main parking stand in Gulmarg. If you wish to do local sightseeing within Gulmarg (e.g., to Strawberry Valley or Baba Reshi if not en route), you must hire an ATV or a local Gulmarg union cab.
